Issues Reported With Websites Across the World - What's Affected?

A major internet outage has disrupted several popular apps and websites this morning, with Amazon confirming problems across its cloud computing arm, Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Services including HMRC have all reported issues, while some banks such as Barclays, Lloyds and the Bank of Scotland have also been affected. Monitoring site Downdetector recorded thousands of outage reports from users, indicating a widespread problem.

In an update, Amazon Web Services confirmed that engineers are working to identify the cause and restore functionality.

Amazon Web Services powers much of the online infrastructure behind global apps, websites and financial systems. A disruption in one region can quickly affect companies and users worldwide.
