Conservatives in North Down have said they will meet soon to select a candidate for the next Assembly election.
They have criticised what they claim were "outrageous delays" in selecting a joint Conservative and Unionist candidate for the general election.
The Conservatives' North Down Association has said it will meet within a month to endorse a potential Assembly candidate.
However they have said they want to continue to co-operate with the Ulster Unionists.
A spokesperson for the Ulster Unionists said the two parties agreed an election pact for both the European and Westminster elections, but there was no agreement for the Assembly elections.
