Thieves cut through live power cables in Wells

Thieves who cut through live electricity cables in Somerset risked their lives, police have said.

Officers believe the section of wire stolen from the roadside near Wells would have been taken for its scrap value.

"They would have needed specialist equipment as the cables were live," a police spokesman said.

Witnesses to the theft which took place alongside the A371 at the weekend are asked to contact police.
