A house earmarked for demolition should be restored as it serves as an "important link" to a village's past, the Scottish government has said.
The owner of the property at Rhu in Plockton had got permission from Highland Council to pull it down and have a new house built.
But Historic Scotland asked the government to consider the application as the site is in a conservation area.
The west Highland village grew up around fishing in the 1800s.
A government reporter, an official who considers planning applications and appeals, said rather than demolish the house it should be restored, or undergo a "sympathetic conversion".
However, the official also commended the design of the proposed new house.
Highland Council's Ross, Skye and Lochaber planning applications committee will have a chance to discuss the decision on Tuesday.
Plockton was used for BBC police drama Hamish Macbeth starring Robert Carlyle.
The series ran during the late 1990s.
