Dr Dorothy White stepped down on Friday
The headmistress of one of Scotland's leading state schools has left her post for "personal reasons".
Dr Dorothy White stepped down from the job at Dunblane High School on Friday, Stirling Council said.
A council spokeswoman said an interim head would be appointed for the start of the new school session in August.
A spokeswoman for Stirling Council said: "For personal reasons and by mutual agreement with the council, Dr White has decided to leave her post."
She added: "The head of education will be notifying parents of this change and that steps will be taken to recruit to the post."
'New team'
The spokeswoman confirmed that the head teacher from St Modans High School in Stirling, Frank Lennon, had been recruited to fill the post at Dunblane on a temporary basis from August.
He will head a new team of admin staff at the school, which was opened in 2008 by former pupil, tennis star Jamie Murray.
The spokeswoman added: "Mr Lennon is taking over at Dunblane on an interim basis.
"He has spoken to his own staff at St Modans and now letters have been sent to staff at both schools as well as parents at both schools informing them of the situation.
"Two deputy head teachers at Dunblane were due to retire and so there will be a new management team at the school."
