
Two lifeboats were launched to search for the missing man
The body of a man has been recovered from a muddy creek in Hampshire.
Coastguards and RNLI crews, who were searching for a missing canoeist, found the body near Wilson's Boat Yard in Hayling Island at about 0730 BST.
Hampshire Police said they were alerted at 0510 BST by a man who was concerned about his friend who borrowed his canoe shortly after midnight.
The police named the dead man as Karl Maynard, 24, of Purbrook, Waterlooville.
The coastguard helicopter and two RNLI lifeboats were launched to search for the man.
The canoe was located at the entrace of Mengeham Creek at 0712 BST.
Mr Maynard's body was recovered from mud in nearby Mengeham Rythe at about 0724 BST and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
