Plans to turn former Best Food Hall into 28 homes

Plans have been submitted to turn the former site of the Best Food Hall in St Peter Port, close to Frossard House, into 28 homes.

The site covers 0.3 hectares (0.75 acres) - the size of just under half a football pitch - and nestles into a steep valley.

The planning application has described the plot, currently home to a beauty salon and a flooring supply store, as being underutilised and suggested the location could be put to more effective use.

The application also stated the current buildings made little contribution to the area's character and appeared out of place, while the proposed homes would enhance its overall appearance.

The proposed development sits on the former Best Food Hall that closed in 2006

The new homes would have two residential blocks.

Block A, along the existing road, would be four storeys and would have 16 flats, a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments.

Block B, set away from the road, would be three storeys high, each housing four two-bedroom flats with balconies overlooking the valley.

The plans also include underground parking for 28 cars, with further facilities for 52 bicycles.
