Two jailed over fatal shooting of father

A man convicted of killing a father, who was shot in the head outside his home on his birthday, has been jailed for 15 years.

Mohammed Haroon Zeb, 39, was attacked in Queen's Cross, Dudley, in January 2021 as part of a feud between two families, police said.

Akeel Hussain, 23, of Dudley, who was found guilty of his manslaughter last month, was sentenced at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Friday.

A second man, Mohammed Rafiq, 22, also of Dudley, was jailed for four years for perverting the course of justice.

Father-of-four Mr Zeb, known as Haroon, was shot outside his home when returning from work in the early hours of 31 January 2021, police said.

The taxi firm manager died later the same day in hospital.

The fatal shot was fired from a Volkswagen Golf, West Midlands Police said.

In February, two men in the car, Gurdeep Sandhu and Hassan Taslem, were each jailed for 30 years for his murder.

The force said Hussain, of Brook Street, "helped arrange the carefully planned attack" on Mr Zeb, as part of a feud between two families.

Rafiq, of Gammage Street, was involved in helping to conceal the Golf, which had false number-plates and was later recovered in Telford, Shropshire, police said.

Det Supt Jim Munro said the force may never know why Mr Zeb was targeted.

"He was not believed to have been actively involved in the feud but was following what was going on," he said.

"We know nothing can ever replace the loss of a loved one, but we hope the fact Hussain will now spend considerable time behind bars will ease some of the pain felt by Mr Zeb's family."
