Woman suffered multiple fractures in crossing crash

A convicted killer who left a pedestrian with multiple fractures in a crash has been jailed.

Junaid Farrukh, 29, told police he was "following a friend through an amber light" when he ran over a woman on a pedestrian crossing in Western Boulevard, Wollaton, Nottingham, in January 2023.

Farrukh, who was previously jailed after admitting manslaughter in 2016, pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by careless driving.

He was jailed for nine months and disqualified from driving for two years and four months when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court.

Police said the collision left the woman with a "great deal of physical and psychological harm" after causing multiple bone fractures, including her spine.

The court heard Farrukh, formerly of Oakwood in Derby, was already in custody as he had been recalled to prison some time after the collision, having breached the terms of his licence in relation to the manslaughter conviction.

He had been jailed in 2016 after he and three others admitted manslaughter in connection with a fatal stabbing of a 21-year-old man.

Supt Chris Pearson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This case highlights the dangers of failing to stop at an amber or red light.

“The collision has had a profound impact on the victim and caused her a great deal of physical and psychological harm.

“I hope Farrukh uses his time in custody to reflect on his actions and realise the importance of obeying the Highway Code at all times.”
