Artificial light means Earth is starting to 'lose night'

Scientists say an increase in artificial light, leading to a "loss of night" in many countries, is having negative consequences for animals, people and plant-life.

The research published in the journal Science Advances, says that between 2012 and 2016 the area of planet Earth being artificially lit grew by more than 2% each year.

The data came from a Nasa satellite radiometer - a device specially designed to measure the brightness of night-time light.

This is what the Earth looks like at night from space.
