The case of a Cornwall councillor described as "a risk to children" could prompt the county's authority to introduce enhanced checks for all council members.

Cornwall Council warned youth groups about councillor Alex Folkes (pictured) last year based on a 2006 police investigation into sexual images of children.

The council is now looking at criminal records checks through the Disclosure and Barring Service, external (DBS) for all members in response to an expert review. Mr Folkes was not charged and said "no images were found" on his computer.

Police who arrested a drugs gang based in Exeter which was "intent on flooding the streets ... with amphetamines" say members of it were involved "to fund their lavish lifestyles".

Five men have begun jail sentences totalling 18 years and 10 months after admitting offences at Exeter Crown Court. A sixth man has yet to be sentenced. Some of the men had been "caught in the act" of mixing drugs in a kitchen (pictured) in a haul with an estimated street value of more than £150,000.

Det Sgt Rob Youngman said the lavish lifestyles "included high performance vehicles, clothing, gadgets and gambling", adding: "They were organising the mixing of drugs to maximise their profit and would use others to sell these drugs."

Truro City boss Steve Tully has said he is not nervous ahead of their Southern Premier League play-off semi-final at home to Hungerford Town.

The one-off tie kicks off at Treyew Road at 19:45, with the winners coming up against either Poole Town or St Neots to decide who gets promoted to Conference South.

"The nerves aren't really there for me at the moment," Tully told BBC Radio Cornwall. "I'm sure the players have woken up a little bit nervous but I thought if you had nerves before a big game that's always good."

A bridge has been lifted into place over the A38 at Heathfield.

The road had to be closed last night to allow lorries to manoeuvre it into place. The bridge is aimed at improving pedestrian and cyclist access to Dartmoor.

About 2,000 customers lost electric power in the Truro area because of an underground cable fault, Western Power Distribution, external says.

Two major circuit breakers tripped at about 16:30, a spokesperson said, but most people had supplies restored within half an hour.

The last 260 affected customers were expected to have supplies restored by 17:30, but customers could also experience fluctuations in supply while engineers continued to restore the system, the company added.

Investigations are underway to find out if a multimillion pound redevelopment to part of Exmouth's seafront will have to be delayed because of badgers.

East Devon District Council, external says it has received reports of badgers close to the proposed Queen's Drive leisure zone site.

Badgers are protected by law and Natural England, external says if further investigations reveal badgers are present, then they could be relocated under licence to an alternative location.

• There's been an accident on Hill Barton Road in Exeter near Hart's Lane.

Truro City FC chairman Pete Masters says the club's position as they face their biggest game of the season on Tuesday evening is a "fantastic achievement".

The team face Hungerford Town in the Southern Premier League play-off semi-final at Treyew Road.

Speaking on Laurence Reed's programme, he said: "Hungerford are a very good squad, but we're ready, we've got a full squad and we can really get on with it."

A project co-ordinator has been appointed to redevelop and reopen an outdoor swimming pool in Penzance.

Cornwall Council, the Friends of Jubilee Pool, external and Tempus Leisure said Kathryn Osborn would lead work paid for by a funding package of almost £3m, including repairs for major storm damage. The pool is scheduled to reopen in Spring 2016.

Exeter Express and Echo

Cranbrook Station will open this summer say Network Rail, although they were unable to confirm if it would be as early as June or as late as September, reports the Exeter Express and Echo, external.

However, they confirmed trains would be arriving at the new platforms by the autumn.

The station is on the Waterloo-Exeter line and will service the growing new town of Cranbrook.

Police investigating a burglary in Dobwalls in Cornwall in which football memorabilia was taken are trying to identify two men they would like to speak to, the Devon and Cornwall force, external says.

Arsenal and Plymouth Argyle commemorative scarves and pins, cash and jewellery were among the items taken during the burglary in Five Lanes on Monday 13 April, officers said.

Torquay Herald Express

Rare footage has emerged of a police parade which took place in Torquay almost 60 years ago, the Herald Express, external reports.

The event was to mark the centenary of the Devon County Constabulary in 1956.

The Devon County Constabulary was formed in 1856. In 1956 a centenary celebration was held in Torquay on September 12.

There are some advance warnings of roadworks which will be affecting local roads tonight:

• The A30 between the Innis Downs Junction & Bodmin will be closed in both directions for drainage work from 20:00 until 06:00. Diversions will be in place.

• On the A374 Plymouth Road inbound between Marsh Mills & Embankment Lane one lane will be closed from 21:00 until 06:00.

• Between 19:00 and 04:00 at Lee Mill between Plympton and Ivybridge, the Exeter-bound exit slip will be closed with diversions in place.

• On the A38 in Plympton from Deep Lane towards Voss there will be an Exeter-bound lane closure from 19:00 to 04:00 for resurfacing.

• On the A30 at Alphington near Exeter there will be an Okehampton-bound lane closure between 19:00 and 06:00 for survey work.

• Between Chudleigh Knighton & Drum Bridges the A38 will be closed in both directions due to roadworks from 19:00 until 06:00.

The Cornish Guardian, external reports how emergency services were called to a multiple car fire on Boldventure Road, St Austell, in the early hours of this morning.

Concerned residents raised the alarm just before 1am, reporting that a car was on fire in the street.

A fire engine from St Austell raced to the scene, but crew members requested backup after discovering that the flames had spread to two nearby vehicles and a shed, and were in danger of setting houses on the street alight.
