Why McDonald's was temporarily off the menu

For some a trip to McDonald's can be a bit of a treat, but if you're in that group the only thing being served up earlier was bad news.

Technical problems meant customers weren't able to order food at the fast food chain.

As of about 10:40am the restaurant said it had fixed the issues facing customers in the UK.

But customers in Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Germany and Austria also said they were unable to order food due to the system being down.

The issued apparently started in the early hours of Friday morning.

McDonald's has apologised to customers and said the problem was unrelated to cyber-security.

It isn't clear whether the issue had been fixed outside of the UK and Ireland before midday.

People on social media also reported issues in China and Sweden.
